Expert: The President, the Prime Minister and the Speaker of  Parliament should be accountable to the public on the issue of  procurement

ArmInfo. It is a shame in post-revolutionary Armenia to close information on public procurement for top officials of the state. On February 21, during the  parliamentary hearings on public procurement, Chairman of Committee  to Protect Freedom of Expression Ashot Melikyan said.

According to him, in 2016, the Law "on Procurement" was amended,  according to which procurement for the needs of The President, the  Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament became a state secret.  Then, according to the expert, this was explained by the interests of  national security. However, as Melikyan continued, questions arose  regarding freedom of information and the fight against corruption.  "It turns out that all state structures are accountable to society,  except for the first persons of the state," the head of the Committee  said.

He also reported on the development of a draft law, which is expected  to be put into circulation, especially since the Prime Minister  himself does not object to the submitted document.

To recall, today the parliament is discussing the effectiveness of  the public procurement system
