Growth in Armenia`s service sector slows down 

ArmInfo.  In Armenia, the service sector in January 2020 increased volumes by 13.4% per annum to 151.5 billion drams ($ 316.1 million), against the 15.6% growth a  year earlier.

According to the RA Statistical Committee, the trend is due to the  deterioration in the dynamics of the volume of education services -  from a 14.1% increase to a 4.9% decline, administrative and support  activities - from a 17.7% increase to a 4.8% decrease, as well as a  slowdown in the growth of catering and tourism services - from 28.9%  to 28.6%, culture, entertainment and recreation - from 44.1% to 3.5%.

In terms of the volume of services provided financial sector is in  the lead-AMD 40.2 billion (26.6% of the total), with y-o-y growth of  21.1%. The second place in terms of services is occupied by the field  of culture, entertainment and recreation - 35.4 billion drams (23.3%  of the total), with a y-o-y growth of 3.5%. In third place is the  information and communications sector - 22.5 billion drams (14.9% of  the total), with y-o-y growth of 9.6%, where the telecommunications  segment dominates in terms of volume. The fourth place is occupied by  the transport sector - 15 billion drams (9.9% of the total), with  y-o-y growth of 27.3%. The five leaders in terms of the volume of  services provided are closed by the catering and tourism sector -  10.9 billion drams (7.3% of the total), with a y-o-y growth of 28.6%.

The average calculated exchange rate of dram to US dollar in January  2020 was 479.21 AMD./$ 1, against 485.79 AMD/$ 1 in January 2019.
