ArmInfo. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposes to open a copper smelter in Armenia. He said this on April 18 in Vayots Dzor.
Pashinyan noted that Armenia is one of the richest countries in terms of copper reserves. "Today, copper is declared the oil of the 21st century. And two days ago, the price of copper set a historical record, exceeding $ 9,000 per ton. But we cannot fully enjoy our national wealth, because we are a country that exports ore. The opening of the railway will allow us to open a copper smelter in Armenia, " he said.
This means, according to the Prime Minister, that Armenia will export not ore, but metal, and not even metal, but processed metal products - copper wire, cable. "Why is the price of copper rising? Because this is the era of electric vehicles, green energy, alternative energy, and the most important component of alternative energy and electric vehicles is copper, " he said. Thus, according to him, Armenia will be able to restore the level of its former industry, because " the economy will be based on copper, copper will be processed, it will become cable, dozens of other products, solar panels." "I have said our main basic ideas in three areas: security, public education, agriculture and industry. We must develop and move forward on this path, " he said.
