Solar photovoltaic floating station opened on Lake Yerevan

Solar photovoltaic floating station opened on Lake Yerevan

ArmInfo. A solar photovoltaic floating station was opened on Lake Yerevan. This was  reported by the press service of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures.

According to the source, the station was built on the initiative of  the  Renewable Energy Fund of Armenia with financial assistance from  the French government.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Territorial Administration  and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan, French Ambassador to Armenia  Olivier Decottignies, Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Tigran Avinyan and  other officials.

In particular, Gnel Sanosyan noted that even if the capacity of the  floating solar station is small (150 kW), it and other similar  stations can open up new prospects for the development of renewable  energy in Armenia. "We are confident that such programs will have a  positive impact and will contribute to the development of the  industry and strengthening the energy security of Armenia," said the  head of the department.

He noted that the authorities pay quite special attention to the  development of alternative energy, as evidenced by a large number of  incentive programs. "And this station is the result of this policy,"  Sanosyan emphasized.

In turn, Vice Mayor Tigran Avinyan noted that work towards the  development of solar energy in Armenia started in 2018. <I think we  have made significant progress in our developed strategy. "Hundreds  of solar power plants are already operating in Armenia, and we have  an agreement with the Masdar company on the construction of a solar  power plant with a capacity of 200 MW," he noted. The vice-mayor  emphasized in this regard that Yerevan is going to completely switch  to green energy consumption.

During the event, it was also noted that, according to the social  impact assessment conducted, the construction and operation of the  station will not create a significant environmental and social  impact.
