Armenia should completely switch to renewable energy - Jon Dee

ArmInfo.Armenia should completely switch to renewable energy sources, Jon Dee, Co-founder  and Managing Director of DoSomething, stated at the ROBUST ARMENIA- 2024 conference.

He emphasized that this is important not so much in the context of  environmental protection, but in terms of safety. In this regard, the  entrepreneur pointed out the risks associated with the decision of  other countries to either stop gas supplies or increase gas tariffs,  which will entail an increase in electricity tariffs and production  costs will also increase.

No country can block the sun and the wind for Armenia, no country can  prevent Armenia from switching to renewable sources and developing  hydropower production, said Jon Dee, noting that prices for batteries  are going down.

He emphasized that Armenia must have energy independence and  completely abandon gas. Drawing a parallel with Australia, Dee noted  that the state has announced that it will become 100% renewable by  2027, using solar, wind and batteries. "Then I challenge Armenia:  switch to 100% renewable energy by 2035. It's very easy to do.  Because many large banks and financial organizations around the world  are ready to provide Armenia with affordable funds if you decide to  take such a step," the businessman said.  According to Dee, there is  no need to worry about the costs because such changes can be made  without breaking the bank.

At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that in our country  there are lands unsuitable for agricultural purposes, which, in his  opinion, can be used for installing solar panels.

Araratbank acted as a partner of the ROBUST ARMENIA-2024 conference.

In 1989, Jon Dee founded the Rock Aid Armenia initiative with the  goal of providing assistance to Armenia after the devastating Spitak  earthquake.
