Risks of exiting EAEU are obvious: Finance Minister

ArmInfo. There are numerous risks associated with Armenia's exit from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as stated by RA Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan during a briefing in parliament on January 13.  "Many different risks are being calculated, including those connected with this. All risks are  assessed and considered," he said.

As the head of the Ministry of Finance assured, the country's  financial authorities are analysing  various development scenarios,  but it is inappropriate to talk about these risks "since this is part  of working practice."  When asked if it is advisable at this stage to  risk membership in a structure that has proven its viability and  productivity for the Republic of Armenia for the sake of an uncertain  prospect in the EU, he said that "the question cannot be answered  from the point of view of the Minister of Finance". "Life is not  black and white and there are numerous factors that should be taken  into account", he noted. According to him, the Armenian authorities  have been working for two years to diversify exports with the help of  various tools. Hovhannisyan added that the next project will be  announced soon. At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Finance  noted that the negative consequences for the Republic of Armenia of  leaving the EAEU are obvious, as the majority of Armenian exports go  to the Union (about 50% of Armenian exports, specifically exports  from Armenia to the EAEU countries, have increased more than 10 times  since 2015 - from $ 300 million to $ 3.4 billion in 2023, according  to Deputy Minister of Economy Narek Hovakimyan - ed.)
