ArmInfo. Narek Karapetyan, coordinator of the "In Our Way" movement, is confident that economists must take the helm of Armenia's leadership. He stated this in an interview with the Public Television of Armenia.
"The main problem of our country is the economy, as there are half a million people in Armenia on the brink of poverty," the politician noted, pointing to the growth of the country national debt to $14 billion. He pointed out that since 2018, the volume of annual state debt payments has increased by 270 billion drams, while the total budget expenditures on pensions are approximately 290 billion drams. Thus, had it not been for the growth of the national debt, pension sizes could have been doubled. Furthermore, Narek Karapetyan noted, the country's authorities have failed to transfer the significant influx of Russian capital after 2022 into long-term economic development.
He added that the goal of the "In Our Way" movement is social consolidation, and for this to happen, a new leader is necessary. "We, and a significant part of society, see Samvel Karapetyan, President of the Tashir Group of Companies, as the new leader," the movement's coordinator said.
