ArmInfo. Armenia will implement a digital management system for vehicle queues at land borders. The National Assembly's Committee on Economic Affairs has approved amendments to the Law "On Customs Regulation" at its February 4 meeting.
As Hamlet Sahakyan, Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia, noted, the initiative was prompted by feedback from 45 transport companies. The findings had revealed significant logistical bottlenecks: 87% of respondents reported frequent delays due to border queues and 62% experienced wait times of at least three hours at land checkpoints.
According to the bill, truck parking facilities will be established at a minimum distance of 20 km from checkpoints. A digital system will register cargo vehicles, assign queue positions, and issue entry permits for the checkpoints. Carriers with the necessary documentation can utilize the system to bypass physical congestion, enhancing overall border throughput. The specific operational procedures for the electronic system will be determined by a subsequent government decree. Sahakyan also stated that the experience of the European Union and Georgia was taken into account when drafting the bill.
