ArmInfo. Trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Armenia has reached a very high level, with Russia accounting for approximately 33% of the country's foreign trade. This was stated by Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko following a meeting with Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, as reported by TASS.
"Our trade and economic cooperation has reached a very high level. Russia accounts for approximately 33% of Armenia's foreign trade turnover. Over these years, Russian businesses have invested over $4 billion, including 40 projects in Armenia. This demonstrates that we have ambitious plans for further development. Therefore, I believe this will not be possible without parliamentary dialogue," she told reporters.
Simonyan has been in Russia on an official visit since February 4.
According to statistics, Armenia's foreign trade turnover with Russia reached record levels in 2024, exceeding $11-12 billion, with Russia remaining the main trading partner (over 40% of the total). However, a significant decline was observed in 2025: over the first 10 months of 2025, turnover decreased by almost 48%, amounting to approximately $5.72 billion. Exports from Armenia decreased by 9.2% to $2.38 billion, while imports from Russia, as an exporting country, amounted to $3.48 billion, a decline of 58.3%.
