ArmInfo. On February 6, Alen Simonyan, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, who is on an official visit to the Russian Federation, met with Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom.
According to the National Assembly press service, during the meeting, the parties discussed issues of mutual interest.
Recall that Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation previously proposed to Armenia the construction of a large nuclear power unit with a capacity of 1,200 MW. The project, consisting of 11 volumes, did not attract the Armenian side, which preferred nuclear power plants with small modular reactors. Rosatom is actively involved in the modernization of the existing Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (with a construction extension until 2026-2036) and is considered a potential partner for SMRs. Specifically, the corporation is offering Armenia the RITM-200 SMR with a capacity of 55 MW.
