ArmInfo. Armenian authorities are implementing several major agricultural risk insurance programs. Minister of Economy Gevork Papoyan shared this information during a government hour in the National Assembly on March 4.
According to him, the agricultural risk insurance system can be considered established. Currently, 6-7 insurance companies are actively working in the regions to provide coverage for these risks. The government, in turn, pays 45%-60% of all insurance policies. It often happens that farmers pay only 40% of the insurance policies, with the state covering the remainder. The minister highlighted the severe hailstorms in 2024-2025, where the government compensated farmers for losses totaling over 3 billion drams. The crop production program includes a 50% reimbursement for farmers' expenses related to planting grain crops. Several thousand people will benefit from this program.
The government is also focusing on the establishment of intensive orchards, as the government's goal is to develop intensive agriculture, highly productive in itself. The Cabinet of Ministers is assisting farmers in its development through several programs. For example, the government covers up to 50% of farmers' total expenses for the purchase of breeding livestock, covers a portion of the interest on loans, and in the case of drip irrigation, the interest rate subsidy can exceed 90%. The equipment and machinery leasing program, under which the government pays 12% of the 14% interest rate, is ongoing.
