
ArmInfo. In January 2026, cargo transportation in Armenia amounted to 1,023.6 thousand tons, continuing to decline with an annual growth rate increasing from 28.5% to 39.6%, according to data from the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
Specifically, cargo transportation by road decreased the most significantly, by 52.4% year-on-year to 571.2 thousand tons. Rail freight transportation also decreased by 28.1% to 152.2 thousand tons, while air freight transportation decreased by 25.5% year-on-year to 3.5 thousand tons. At the same time, natural gas supplies via the main pipeline increased by 7.3% year-on-year to 296.7 thousand tons.
According to statistics, passenger transportation in Armenia in January 2026 slowed from a year-on-year decline of 39% to 19%, amounting to 18,147.2 thousand people. Specifically, passenger transportation by road decreased by 18.6% to 15,655.4 thousand people, by rail by 12.4% to 33.2 thousand people, and by air by 3.1% to 432.2 thousand people. Passenger transportation by electric transport decreased by 24.8% year- on-year, amounting to 2,026.4 thousand people in January. As a result, freight turnover decreased in January by 6.9% year-on-year to 552.8 million ton-km, and passenger traffic by 13.6% to 363.9 million passenger-km.
