ArmInfo. Construction of the third Iran-Armenia power transmission line is 88% complete. This was announced by David Khudatyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, at a plenary session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on April 16.
According to him, there is every opportunity to fully complete the project this year.
Khudatyan reported that last year, power generation facilities produced 10 billion kWh of electricity, 16.3% of which came from solar energy, an unprecedented figure. Moreover, this occurred even without storage facilities. Last year alone, the installed capacity of solar power plants amounted to 1,100 MW, and this year this figure increased by another 100 MW. In 2025, solar power capacity increased by 43% compared to 2024. Moreover, electricity production by all generation facilities in 2025 increased by 6.7% compared to 2024.
The Minister also reported that 33.3% of the total electricity sold (an increase of 27.3%) was sold on the liberalized electricity market. Approximately 11,000 transactions were completed in this area. Furthermore, electricity consumption also increased, reaching 7.6 billion kWh, representing a 6.6% increase.
The Minister added that work to extend the service life of Unit 2 of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant will continue this year. As a result of these measures, the unit will be able to produce electricity for another 10 years, until 2036. Last year, the first commercial-scale solar power plant, Masrik-1, was commissioned, generating 110 million kWh of electricity. This year, these volumes will be significantly higher.
