ArmInfo. At the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, property tax for electric vehicle owners has been significantly reduced. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the source, a new property tax calculation formula, based on a unified methodology, has been in effect since April 1. Electric vehicle owners can already view their vehicle registration certificates on the roadpolice.am platform. Prior to the change, the calculation was based on the peak engine power of the electric vehicle, which was higher than the power available in real-world driving conditions.
Under the new approach, the calculation is performed as follows: if the vehicle has an electronic registration document, the information contained therein is used to calculate the property tax. If there is no electronic registration document, for vehicles with a power rating of up to 250 horsepower, the number is divided by 1.5; for vehicles with a power rating of 251 horsepower and above, the calculation is performed in two stages. In the first stage, 250 horsepower is divided by 1.5, and the remaining horsepower is divided by 2.5, then the results are summed. The new procedure for calculating electric vehicle engine power has significantly eased the financial burden on drivers.
Electric vehicle driver Vahagn Rashoyan notes that he is pleased with the changes and that the property tax has decreased from approximately 80,000 drams to 29,000 drams.
According to electric vehicle driver Hrachya Hovhannisyan, the property tax has been reduced by 50% due to the new calculation of engine power.
The goal of the new method for calculating electric vehicle property tax, introduced at the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is to make the process more predictable and understandable for citizens.
