ArmInfoToday, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan received a delegation led by European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Karl Nehammer. Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation, including road construction, infrastructure development, energy, the water sector, and other areas. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue effective cooperation aimed at implementing current programs and further expanding the scope of cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan also met with the EIB delegation. Grigoryan highlighted the Bank's important role as a key partner for Armenia and emphasized the significance of the Bank's ongoing engagement in the government's reform process. The meeting also focused on the progress of EIB programs in Armenia and their importance for EU integration. The parties touched on initiatives to expand the Bank's involvement in Armenia's public and private sectors.
It should be noted that the European Investment Bank (EIB)'s activities in Armenia reached record levels as of May 2026, becoming a key instrument in the country's rapprochement with the European Union. The bank's main activities are focused on financing transport infrastructure (the construction of a 60-km section of the Sisian-Kajaran road (part of the North-South Corridor)). The EIB allocated 236 million euros for this project. A 50 million euro program is also underway, aimed at the socio-economic development of the Syunik region, with a focus on water supply and the improvement of educational and medical institutions. The bank also implements programs to support SMEs through Armenian banks, support the modernization of the Yerevan metro, the reconstruction of kindergartens, and improve the energy efficiency of public buildings. The bank has invested 50 million euros in the modernization of the country's energy infrastructure.
It is worth noting that the EIB's investments are part of the broader EU Global Gateway plan, under which Armenia is expected to receive over 2.5 billion euros.
