
ArmInfo.In Q1 2026, the volume of freight transport in Armenia decreased by 1.6% compared to the same period in 2025 (against 0.7% growth a year earlier), totaling 3,408.5 thousand tons. According to data from the Statistical Committee of the RA, this downward trend was driven by a 10.7% decline in dominant road freight volumes, which fell to 2,185.9 thousand tons.
However, growth was recorded in other sectors: railway freight rose by 34.8% to 470.3 thousand tons, and air freight increased by 27.4% to 12.1 thousand tons. Additionally, 740.2 thousand tons of natural gas were supplied via main pipelines, marking a 13% annual increase.
Passenger transport grew by 5.2% during the reporting period (recovering from a 26.7% decline a year ago), totaling 55,555.3 thousand people. The largest share of passenger traffic was also attributed to road transport, accounting for 85.2% (47,329.9 thousand people), with an annual growth of 5.1%. Air passenger transport increased by 8.5% to 1,145.3 thousand people, and electric transport (metro/trolleybus) rose by 6.2% to 6,983.2 thousand people. A decline was recorded only in railway passenger transport, which fell by 11% to 96.9 thousand people.
As a result, total freight turnover increased by 9.9% annually to 1,477.6 million ton-km, while passenger turnover grew by 3.5% annually to 1,066.8 million passenger-km.
