ArmInfo.  U.S. Embassy Yerevan welcomes continued progress in U.S.-Armenia civil nuclear energy cooperation! Experts from Sargent and Lundy are visiting Yerevan May 19-22 to provide continued technical assistance on Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology through the U.S. State Department's Foundational Infrastructure for Responsible Use of Small Modular Reactor Technology (FIRST) program. Sargent and Lundy, working with Armenian officials, completed a pre-feasibility study to assess the  viability of replacing the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) unit  with advanced U.S. SMR technology.

Four U.S. SMR designs confirmed suitable for consideration for  deployment in Armenia 

Technical support aligned with IAEA best practices 

Focus on highest standards of nuclear safety, security, and  nonproliferation 

Exploring options to replace the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant  following the end of its operational lifetime.
