ArmInfo. Armenian authorities will facilitate the export of domestically produced goods to the markets of the European Union, UK, and Canada. The RA government approved the Export Promotion Program at its meeting on June 4.
As Deputy Minister of Economy Arman Khojoyan noted at the Cabinet meeting, assistance will be provided through customs duty reimbursement. It should be noted that only processed products are considered goods. However, it should be noted that the development of not only industry but also agriculture is important for economic development. The risk level in growing crops, which are considered agricultural products, is quite high due to the perishable nature of these products.
Enterprises in this sector often consider exporting these products risky, given not only the perishable nature of the products but also the fact that they deteriorate faster than other products, the conditions of transportation, air freight, and the requirement for phytosanitary documentation. This, in addition to the amount of customs duties paid upon import, makes exporting products from this sector unprofitable.
Therefore, given the numerous farms in Armenia growing agricultural crops and ready to produce not only for domestic consumption but also for export to the international market, and simultaneously emphasizing the importance of market diversification and the importance of representing Armenian products in European and other target markets, it is necessary to support enterprises engaged in agricultural crop production when exporting to the markets of the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
Therefore, the proposed compensation of customs duties paid in the country of import may increase the competitiveness of the Armenian crop production sector in the international market, contributing to the development of local agricultural production. In 2025, as the Deputy Minister noted, a 15 percent increase in exports was recorded in these areas.
