ArmInfo. The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia is working to grant international status to Syunik Airport in Kapan. This was announced by Deputy Minister Armen Simonyan.

Recalling that the airport began operating regular flights two years  ago, he noted that certain legal issues had already been resolved at  that time in order to obtain this status.

"We have developed a roadmap for the airport to receive international  status. This will expand the airport's flight network and launch  international flights, which will have a significant impact on  tourism development," Simonyan said. The Deputy Minister also  emphasized that numerous agencies are working on the roadmap. "We  highly value this airport's potential. Once all the planned work is  completed, it will be granted international status. I am confident  that good news lies ahead," he emphasized.

It should be noted that flights at Syunik Airport are operated by an  L-410UVP-E20 aircraft, which can accommodate 17 passengers. Tickets  cost 20,000 drams. Five flights are operated weekly. In addition to  scheduled flights, charter flights are also organized. Clients  represent a wide range of social groups, from individuals to  businesses, and from various social backgrounds. The airport  currently employs 40 people, most of whom are local residents, with a  few specialized specialists from Yerevan.
