ArmInfo. Armenia has entered the top ten countries with the highest female population share. This is according to World Bank data based on the age and sex distribution of the population calculated using the World Population Prospects: 2022 Revision database of the UN Population Division.
According to the latest data, women make up 53.6% of Armenia's population, while men account for approximately 46.4%. Based on this indicator, the republic ranks fifth in the top ten countries worldwide. For comparison, among Armenia's neighboring countries, Georgia has the closest indicator, with women making up 53.4% of the population and ranking eighth in the top ten. In Azerbaijan, their share is estimated at 51.0%, while in Turkey (50.1%) and Iran (49.2%), women make up less than half the population.
According to data from specialized agencies, despite the predominance of women in the overall population, a gender imbalance in favor of boys persists at birth in Armenia. According to the Statistical Committee, 33,648 children were born in the republic in 2024, of which 17,614 were boys and 16,034 were girls. Thus, there were approximately 110 boys for every 100 newborn girls (109.9), while the natural biological norm is considered to be 104-106 boys for every 100 girls.
Previously, according to former Health Minister Arsen Torosyan, approximately 80,000 girls have not been born in the country over the past 30 years.
