Economy Ministry  discusses granting Armenia market economy status by  the United States

ArmInfo. On July 23, Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan received US Charge d'Affaires in Armenia David Allen and  Edward Eichler, Head of the Economic and Commercial Unit  at the US Embassy.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the  process of granting Armenia the status of a market economy country by  the United States. Papoyan expressed confidence that the established  effective cooperation will contribute to the consistent advancement  of this process and the further development of the bilateral economic  agenda of mutual interest.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Economy, the  interlocutors confirmed during the discussions that economic  cooperation between Armenia and the United States is developing  dynamically, noting the positive progress achieved recently.

It should be noted that according to the RA Statistics Committee,  foreign trade turnover between Armenia and the United States in  January-May 2026 increased by 28.2%, totaling $198.7 million. Exports  amounted to $15.8 million, registering a 33% year-on-year decline,  against the backdrop of a 39.2% growth in imports, reaching $182.8  million.
