The Armenian government plans to construct or overhaul approximately 40 bridges between 2026 and 2031, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced during an inspection of the newly renovated Kievyan bridge in Yerevan, which reopened to traffic two weeks ahead of schedule. The Kievyan Bridge, last renovated in 1995 to address drainage issues, has been granted a 20-year warranty following the completion of its latest overhaul.
The officials responsible for the implementation of the work reported to the prime minister that during the overhaul, expansion joints were restored, drainage and waterproofing systems were restored and installed, and new galvanized fences were installed. Electrical cables from lighting poles were dismantled and moved to inspection wells located under the sidewalk. A fresh upper asphalt-concrete layer was also laid, the sidewalks on both sides of the bridge were paved, and road markings were applied.
The prime minister was told that for the first time in Armenia, specialized polymer concrete was utilized near the expansion joints to absorb impact loads and vehicle vibrations, improving safety and ride comfort. Full-scale traffic has resumed on the bridge, while ongoing reinforcement work on the supporting arches and pillars will continue through the end of the year without requiring further road closures.
