
ArmInfo.Duting a meeting in Yerevan, Chairman of the Water Committee of Armenia Aramazd Ghalamkaryan and Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic Petr Pirunczyk discussed ongoing and planned programs in water resources management, construction of reservoirs and wastewater treatment in Armenia, as well as the potential of expanding Armenian-Czech cooperation in this direction.
According to the press service of the Water Committee, Ghalamkaryan noted that effective management of water resources, development and modernization of infrastructure are among the priorities of the Armenian government.
The Armenian official presented programs for the construction of about 25 reservoirs in the next 10-15 years, also touching on the construction of the Cape Reservoir, increasing its volume and the possibility of rehabilitating the Yeghvard Reservoir. Special attention was paid to wastewater treatment. Ghalamkaryan noted that the priority issue is to prevent wastewater from entering the natural environment without proper treatment. In this vein, he said that it is planned to announce open international tenders for the construction of treatment facilities and the introduction of appropriate technological solutions in the Lake Sevan basin.
The Czech side expressed its readiness to provide expert assistance, as well as present technological solutions and services of Czech companies specializing in the water management sector. The corresponding information package will be transferred to the Armenian side.
The parties attached great importance to the continuation of practical contacts and agreed to organize further expert meetings.
