ArmInfo. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk doubts that his Armenian partners are succeeding in reorienting themselves to other markets.
"Apparently not. They received some small assistance, of course, but it's nothing compared to the large and familiar market that Russia represents for them. And we're also accustomed to these products," Overchuk said in an interview with Pavel Zarubin for Vesti News Agency, when asked whether Armenia's attempts to reorient itself to other markets had been successful.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Russia is forced to protect its market.
"The situation today is such that we are forced to protect our market." "We invite our Armenian partners to work with us on this," the Deputy Prime Minister said, as quoted by RIA Novosti.
As a reminder, Rosselkhoznadzor (the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) has restricted the import of all quarantine products from Armenia, as well as their transit through Russia to EAEU member states, since June 12. As Sergei Dankvert, head of Rosselkhoznadzor, explained, the restrictions on the supply of Armenian agricultural products are due to the lack of effective quality control among producers, not to politics. Local producers are already reporting significant losses.
