ArmInfo. Residents of Russia's southern regions book vacations in Armenia and Georgia more often than others, Alexan Mkrtchyan, Vice President of the Alliance of Travel Agencies (ATA), told RIA Novosti.
"For residents of southern Russia, Georgia and Armenia are the first (for vacations - ed.) among neighboring countries after Abkhazia. It's clear that Abkhazia stands out," Mkrtchyan said.
The expert explained the southerners' choice by the proximity of Armenian and Georgian resorts, as well as accessible logistics with regular flights. "The most accurate statistics come from airlines, and they are only increasing flights to Georgia; there are almost no available seats. Not a single airline is offering sales: neither Azimuth nor Red Wings," he emphasized.
At the same time, the agency's source noted, residents of Western Siberia most often choose Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan for vacations, while tourists from Moscow and St. Petersburg go to Belarus.
The Alliance of Travel Agencies (ATA) is a large non-profit association in the travel services sector that has been operating in the Russian market since 2013. The Alliance interacts with other participants in the travel market, government agencies, and public and professional associations.
