ArmInfo. Wizz Air aims to expand its fleet in Armenia by placing a fourth aircraft at Zvartnots Airport this December. Jan Malin, Wizz Air's Chief Commercial Officer, shared this news with journalists during a press conference on September 8.
According to him, the placement of the fourth aircraft in December will increase the frequency of flights on a number of the airline's flights, including new destinations. Starting in December, flights to Basel (Switzerland) will be operated three times a week (from December 18 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) with prices starting from €39.99; to Valencia (Spain) - twice a week (on Tuesdays and Saturdays from December 19) - from €49.99; Varna (Bulgaria) - twice a week (Thursdays and Sundays from June 6, 2027) with prices starting from €45.99 . The frequency and destinations will also increase: flights to Prague - five times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays from December 17) - from €35.99 and to Memmingen - four times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from December 17) - from €39.99.
In addition, Malin noted the economic impact on tourism and the economy as a whole. This aircraft alone will create 45 well-paid jobs, 450 indirect jobs, and $20-25 million in annual tax revenue for the state. This does not include tourist spending on hotels and the tourism ecosystem as a whole, which accounts for approximately 20-30% of incoming passengers. In particular, the commercial director noted that this aircraft will increase the available seat capacity by 35%, bringing it to 240,000. Moreover, with the deployment of the new aircraft, the total number of destinations included in Wizz Air's route network will reach 21, and the geography will cover 14 countries.
"This aircraft will not only carry Armenian citizens, but also bring more tourists here, to whom Armenia will be revealed," Malin said.
WizzAir is a low-cost Hungarian airline, founded in September 2003 and headquartered in Vecsés. The main investor was Indigo Partners, an American private company specializing in transportation investments. The airline operated its first flight in May 2004 from Katowice. In May 2025, Wizz Air announced the opening of its 34th base in Yerevan. Since the beginning of 2026, the airline has operated 3,500 flights from Armenia, carrying approximately 700,000 passengers.
