Armenia`s trade sector growth slowed

ArmInfo. Armenia's trade sector slowed its annual growth from 4.2% to 0.8% in January-July 2026, reaching 3.7 trillion drams ($10.1 billion). According to the RA Statistics Committee, in July alone, trade turnover in Armenia grew by 7% to 614 billion drams ($1.7 billion).

This slowdown in annual growth was caused by a reversal in the dominant wholesale trade, which saw a 4% growth rate and a 2.6% decline, generating revenue of 2.4 trillion drams. AMD ($6.4 billion).

At the same time, revenue from automobile purchases and sales accelerated in growth from 6.8% to 8.8%, amounting to AMD 157.4 billion ($421.8 million).

Year-on-year growth in retail trade also accelerated - from 4.5% to 7.1%, generating revenue of AMD 1.2 trillion ($3.2 billion).

In the retail structure, stores (including supermarkets) account for the largest turnover - 83.7% or AMD 1 trillion (annual growth of 7%), while other retail outlets accounted for 10.3% or AMD 125.4 billion. AMD (annual growth of 4.1%), followed by consumer goods markets - 3.7% or 45.3 billion (annual growth of 15%), kiosks - 1.3% or 15.3 billion (annual decline of 9.3%), and agricultural markets - 1% or 11.4 billion (annual growth of 15.3%).

Wholesale trade dominates the structure of Armenia's total trade turnover - 63.6%, followed by retail - 32.2%, and the remaining 4.2% is accounted for by the purchase and sale of cars.

It should be noted that the average exchange rate of the dram against the US dollar in January-July 2026 was 373.26 drams per $1, and in July - 366.89 drams per $1.
