An additional 500 million drams will be allocated to implement the state program supporting families with children in purchasing housing

ArmInfo.  An additional 500 million drams will be allocated to implement the state assistance program for families with children purchasing housing. The decision was made at a meeting of the RA government on October 8.

As Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Arsen Torosyan noted in his speech, the need to adopt the presented document is обусловлена активной рождаемостью. For the current year, measures to support families intending to improve their housing conditions were planned in the total amount of 2.4 billion drams; however, given the increase in the number of applications received, an additional 500 million drams will be required by the end of this year.

The minister reported that since the program was launched in 2020, assistance has been provided to 17,609 beneficiaries. In the current year alone, 2,425 citizens have made use of it. A total of 13.2 billion drams has already been allocated for these purposes. The program will end by the end of the current year, but given the growing interest, a new program will be submitted for consideration by the government with certain changes, including taking inflationary processes into account, and will serve as a continuation of the first program.  Torosyan emphasized the importance of the program from the perspective of addressing the demographic problem as well.

It should be recalled that Armenia has a state program supporting families with children in the area of housing provision, including assistance with mortgage repayment, insurance subsidies, and special payments for large families.  The maximum value of the property being purchased is proposed at 40 million drams.  As of January 1, 2027, a program for families with 6 or more minor children will come into force. Under this program, 4 million drams will be allocated for each child to purchase or construct an apartment / residential house with a mortgage. When housing is purchased in a rural area, the amount may be increased (the total amount of support may reach 28 million drams in villages and 24 million drams in cities). Part of the funds (up to 2 million drams) may be spent on purchasing furniture or household appliances if the cost of the housing is lower than the subsidy amount.  Mortgage down-payment insurance subsidies are also provided. Families with minor children may receive compensation amounting to 90% of the annual mortgage insurance premium, but not more than 180,000 drams.
