U.S. Deputy Ambassador to Armenia visits ANPP

U.S. Deputy Ambassador to Armenia visits ANPP

ArmInfo.U.S. Deputy Ambassador to Armenia Chip Laitinen visited the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant this week and learned about the critical role it plays to  power the country. This is stated on the official Facebook page of  the US Embassy in Armenia.

"We appreciate the government's attentive efforts to maintain its  safe operation. For nearly three decades, the United States has  assisted Armenia in ensuring the ANPP's safe, stable, and reliable  operation through various safety ensuring assistance projects," the  message notes.

It should be noted that as of today the functioning 2nd unit of the  Metsamor (Armenian) NPP produces more than a third of all electricity  in Armenia and ensures the energy security and independence of the  country.

In 2017, Armenia signed an intergovernmental agreement with Russia  (state corporation Rosatom) ($300 million) to modernize and extend  the operation of the second unit of the station until 2027. At the  end of last year, the work was completed, and the station was  reconnected to the country's power grid.
