ArmInfo. Armenia has come very close to the point where Russia will have to restructure its economic relations with it. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk stated this in an interview with TASS.
The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged that at bilateral meetings, as well as within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), "Armenian leaders speak of friendship with Russia and assure us of their commitment to the EAEU."
"On our part, the discussions are frank and always respectful. At the same time, comparing words with actions, one comes to the conclusion that our colleagues have come very close to the point where we will have to restructure our economic relations with this country," he added. As Overchuk pointed out, the Russian government, by virtue of its authority, is "concerned about the prospects for the future of trade and economic relations with Armenia." "Considering the announcement of the sale of the concession, the general understanding of the regional context, and the Armenian leadership's policy of rapprochement with the EU, serious questions arise regarding their future," he stated.
He also noted that Armenia's exports to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries have increased 12.5-fold since 2015, while over the same period, exports to the EU and the US grew only 1.53-fold and 2.2-fold, respectively. Thus, he stated, the export dynamics clearly demonstrate that "in the real world, Armenian entrepreneurs are making money in the markets of EAEU member states."
In this regard, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister noted that the presented figures "illustrate the real level of interest of Armenia's trading partners in purchasing the products of its producers."
