ArmInfo. The growth of Armenia's telecommunications sector exceeds global averages, according to a study by Nexign and the TelecomDaily information and analytical agency.
According to the source, the telecom market in Armenia grew by 4.2% in 2024 and by 3.5% in 2025 to reach 159.9 billion drams, whereas according to TM Forum, the global market grew by 2.5% annually in 2024-2025. The main sources of revenue for operators remain mobile services (58%) and fixed broadband internet access (approximately 20%). Mobile penetration exceeds 130%, indicating market saturation and a shift in focus from subscriber growth to increased traffic consumption and the development of digital services.
According to the study, Armenia will transition from pilot projects to large-scale implementation of fifth- generation networks in 2025. 5G in Armenia has transformed from an experimental technology into a standard mobile infrastructure, around which operators are building new services. "Currently, fifth- generation networks in Armenia operate primarily under the NSA model, meaning new 5G stations operate on the 4G LTE network core, providing a speed boost without realizing the technology's full potential. This is due, in part, to the high capital expenditures for 5G development: the state imposes strict requirements for network security, infrastructure localization, and supplier selection, making deployment more expensive than in some neighboring countries," the source noted.
Experts believe the transition to full-fledged 5G SA is expected closer to 2027. The primary source of monetization for 5G networks will be the corporate segment: high-definition video surveillance, industrial IoT projects, smart buildings, AR/VR training, and digital services for government agencies. According to analysts at Nexign and TelecomDaily, the Armenian telecom market will grow by an average of 2.5% over the next three years, reaching 172.4 billion drams in 2028.
The Armenian telecom market is mature and technologically advanced. The widespread adoption of 5G, the development of fiber optics, and the launch of cloud platforms are transforming operators from mere communications providers into universal digital providers that combine mobile internet, fixed-line access, TV, and IT services into a single ecosystem. To successfully operate in this model, it is critical to have a modern billing and service platform that allows for the management of the entire range of services within a single system. "This gives operators the opportunity to quickly launch new convergent products, flexibly customize tariffs for different segments, and manage monetization in real time," noted Sergey Karpov, First Deputy CEO at Nexign. According to him, the Armenian telecom market is characterized by intense competition in an environment of high service penetration.
"The limited subscriber base motivates operators to increase the loyalty of current users and develop offers to attract new ones-the younger generation and those ready to switch operators," added the deputy head of Nexign. It should be noted that, according to the RA Statistics Committee, the telecommunications segment, which dominates Armenia's communications sector (92.8%), generated revenue of 159.3 billion drams in 2025, showing a deceleration in year-on-year growth from 3.7% to 3.1%. In December 2025 alone, revenue from the telecommunications segment increased by 6.5% to 14.2 billion drams.
