Georgia does not rule out Armenia`s participation in BTK railway  project - Kobakhidze

ArmInfo.  Georgia does not rule out Armenia's participation in the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway project and is ready to deepen transit cooperation with Yerevan, as stated by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze  following the opening ceremony of the new BTK railway line.

According to him, Tbilisi attaches great importance to cooperation  with Armenia in developing the region's transport and transit  functions. "When we talk about developing Georgia's connectivity,  Armenia is given great importance. We are ready to deepen cooperation  and partnership with our Armenian friends, including in the  development of transit services," Kobakhidze noted.

Responding to a question about the potential inclusion of Armenia in  the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project, the head of the Georgian government  stated that such an option is possible.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which has been operating in test mode  since 2017, has transported over 1.8 million tons of cargo, including  approximately 90,000 containers, during its pilot operation. During  this period, a steady growth trend in freight traffic has been  clearly evident, further confirming the economic and logistical  significance of this transport corridor. This railway line is an  integral part of the Middle Corridor, which plays a special role in  ensuring transport connectivity between Europe and Asia. Once the  route is fully operational, the railway's capacity will reach 5  million tons per year, significantly enhancing our region's transit  capabilities and further boosting the competitiveness of the Middle  Corridor.
