ArmInfo. Armenia remains a member of the Eurasian Economic Union and intends to maximize the opportunities offered by its membership. Deputy Minister of Economy Tigran Gasparyan stated this at the plenary session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on September 14, responding to a comment from Agnessa Khamoyan, a member of parliament from the opposition Armenia faction.
The member of parliament, in particular, inquired about what would happen to the Armenian economy if the country withdrew from the EAEU or was expelled from the union.
And whether there is an alternative to the EAEU market.
In response, the deputy minister noted that, despite the problems that have arisen, the republic has not and does not raise the issue of leaving the EAEU. Yerevan is attempting to address emerging issues, including restrictions on the supply of certain Armenian goods to Russia, Gasparyan noted, using mechanisms provided by the EAEU.
At the same time, the deputy minister emphasized the need to diversify the country's foreign economic relations. "Diversification has no alternative. Although risk scenarios must be discussed, for now the Ministry of Economy and the government proceed from the assumption that we are members of the EAEU and will continue to work from this perspective," Hovakimyan said.
Parliament Speaker Ruben Rubinyan also responded to this statement, noting that it is impossible to expel Armenia from the EAEU, as such a mechanism simply does not exist.
