Possible steps to connect the energy systems of the South Caucasus to the Turkish energy system were discussed at a meeting in Tbilisi between Mesrop Mesropyan, Chairman of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission of Armenia, Pedro Verdello, Chairman of the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER), and representatives of the EU4Energy program. The meeting was held as part of the 9th World Forum on Energy Regulations (WFER IX), held in Tbilisi.
According to the regulator's press service, David Narmania, Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), and Samir Akhondov, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Republic Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA), also attended the meeting.
Mesrop Mesropyan expressed gratitude for the technical assistance provided in regulating Armenia's energy sector and for the close cooperation established. He also emphasized the importance of assistance provided in developing the necessary bylaws for the construction of storage facilities, as stipulated by energy sector legislation.
The statement noted that the meeting discussed opportunities for mutual integration of the energy systems of the South Caucasus countries and deepening regional energy cooperation, as well as possible steps to connect the region's energy systems to the Turkish energy system.
