ArmInfo. 8.9 billion drams will be allocated for medium-term road repairs. This decision was made at a government meeting on October 8.
According to RA Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan, the project envisages repairs on roads with a total length of 176.1 km. Of this, 113.2 km are interstate roads, 33.6 km are national roads, and 29.3 km are regional roads.
In this regard, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asked the minister about the progress of the road construction towards Nrnadzor. In response, Khudatyan noted that asphalt paving had already begun.
It should be noted that construction of the new Shvanidzor-Nrnadzor highway in Armenia's Syunik region is being carried out in two stages, but the completion date has been repeatedly pushed back. The first stage involved excavation work and the erection of structures. This work is being carried out by a consortium of companies, AMV Partner and Sost Construct. The initial plans to complete the project in late 2025 or March 2026 have been postponed; according to the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, the new completion date for the first stage has been set for August 30, 2026. The second stage involves paving the road. The cost of the work is approximately 1.1 billion drams, and a contractor has already been selected.
The traditional route to the remote village of Nrnadzor in the southern Meghri municipality historically ran along a difficult and dangerous section along the riverbank.
The Araks River borders Iran and partially coincides with the former Soviet railway line. The alternative route under construction is designed to improve the village's transport links with the rest of the country and relieve congestion on border infrastructure.
